Study of the Aging of Lithium-Ion Coin Cells by Impedance, Capacity and Noise Measurements

Résumé

In this work, we study the aging of lithium-ion coin cells by performing successive cycles of charging and discharging until the battery cannot be utilized. We perform different duration of discharging (and charging): short (30 min), moderate (2 h), and long (20 h). This study is carried out using complex impedance, capacity, and electrochemical noise measurements. In the context of this work, we demonstrate that aging leads to a linear increase of the polarization resistance Rp of the electrodes which is correlated with a decrease in the capacity. In addition, noise measurements show evolution at low frequencies of the excess noise level in 1/fγ with 1 < γ < 2
